School Field Trips

One hour tours through the easy part of Pennsylvania's largest cave make Laurel Caverns an ideal field trip destination.

Reservations can be made 12 months a year

by calling the number at the bottom of this page.

Cost

Grade K-5     $6.00 per person

Grade 6-12    $7.00 per person

Adults            $9.00 per person

 

 

Group Size

One guide per classroom. (Assumes a class size of 20 to 28 students)

Reservations

Required. Call as early as possible.

By mid-April many dates are filled.

 

Deposit

None required. Pay upon day of arrival or request the school be billed.

 

Cave Studies Program

This program allows the student to evaluate cave water and components of the cave in a research type of environment.  They will use microscopes and equipment provided for them.  They will experience cave exploring.  Flashlights must be brought by the participants for this program and old clothes worn. The release form below is required.

Students: $17.00 each

Adults:       $9.00 each

(One teacher is free for every 15 students)

 


Fossil Hunt

(Grades 4 & up)

Sink holes, outcrops, and a fossil hunt, where each student is guaranteed at least one 300 million year old fossil, highlight this 45 minute learning excursion through the woods over the caverns. (Note: In inclement weather this can be done as a panning activity.)

 

Cost $4.00 per student, Adults observers no charge.

 

 

Gift Shop

Reasonably priced items are available so that every child can afford a souvenir. Also available, if shopping time is a problem, are pre-set souvenir packages of at least three items. Options range from $2.00 to $3.00 and can be ready with advance arrangements.

 

Picnicking

FREE picnicking is available with a 100 student shelter and plenty of outside tables (please share in that no reservations are taken). Soft drinks are available.

 

Kavernputt

A ten thousand square foot simulated cave is an eighteen hole golf course. The course is handicapped accessible with each hole conveying some unique aspect of caves. Three years in the making, this miniature golf course is designed to both entertain and educate.

 

Panning For Gemstones

This delightful activity is a favorite of students. Gold rush screening techniques are used to provide the students with a bagful of actual gemstones which can be identified from a color card given to each participant.

Tour Programs

 

Geology Seminar

( Grades 6-12)

The 430 acres over Laurel Caverns has been preserved as a natural geological park. The purpose of this seminar is to provide students with an understanding of Laurel Caverns as a geological feature of the landscape. This three hour program includes a tour of the caverns.
